Submissions via DCD-approved contractor
Dubai Civil Defence (DCD) approvals are handled through DCD's online services. When an application is submitted successfully, a reference number is issued — that number is what you use to track status online, and DCD sends email and SMS notifications at each change: submission, revision request, rejection or approval. Submissions are made by a DCD-approved contractor or consultant, which means the tracking detail usually sits in their account. If you are the owner or tenant, ask for the reference number and the current stage — and read the status alongside the stage the project is at, because DCD approval is not a single step.
01

Where to Check DCD Application Status

  • DCD online services — enter the application reference number on the tracking page
  • Notifications — email and SMS updates to the contact registered on the application
  • Your contractor or consultant's account — full comments and revision notes appear here

If you have not received a reference number, the application may not have been submitted yet. That is worth confirming before chasing DCD.

02

What Each Status Means

  • Submitted / under review — in the DCD queue; no action needed
  • Revision required — DCD has comments on the drawings or documents; the clock is effectively paused until your consultant resubmits
  • Rejected — the submission did not meet requirements; a corrected resubmission is needed
  • Approved — drawings approved; works can proceed in line with them
  • Inspection scheduled / completed — site verification of installed systems
  • Completion certificate issued — the fire and life-safety installation is signed off

Most delays happen in the "revision required" stage, waiting for the response rather than for DCD.

03

Why DCD Applications Stall

  • Fire alarm, sprinkler or emergency lighting layouts not matching the architectural drawings
  • Travel distances and exit widths not demonstrated
  • Missing material certificates for fire-rated doors, partitions or cladding
  • Kitchen suppression or LPG details missing for F&B premises
  • Installation on site differing from the approved drawings at inspection

The full list, with fixes, is in the DCD approval checklist.

04

Getting the DCD Completion Certificate

After works are installed, DCD inspects the site against the approved drawings: alarms, detection, suppression, emergency lighting, exit signage and fire-rated construction. When the inspection passes, the completion certificate is issued. This certificate is needed for building completion, for trade licence activation on many commercial premises, and for utility connections.

Frequently Asked Questions

01How do I check my Dubai Civil Defence application status?
Use the application reference number on DCD's online tracking page. DCD also sends email and SMS notifications at each status change. Because submissions are made by DCD-approved contractors or consultants, the full comments sit in their account — ask them for the reference number and current stage.
02What does 'revision required' mean on a DCD application?
DCD has reviewed the submission and needs changes to the drawings or documents. The application does not progress until the consultant or contractor resubmits, so this is usually where delays build up.
03Can I apply for DCD approval myself?
DCD submissions are made through a DCD-approved contractor or consultant, who prepares the fire and life-safety drawings and manages revisions and inspections.
04How do I get a DCD completion certificate?
Once the fire and life-safety works are installed, DCD inspects the site against the approved drawings. If everything matches and functions, the completion certificate is issued.
05Why is my DCD approval taking so long?
Usually because the application is waiting on a response to DCD comments, or because the site installation does not match the approved drawings at inspection. Ask your consultant for the latest status and any outstanding comments.
